Tour du Monde

AC: And there you have it! The 6 month "tour du monde" is over. *Sniff*. Fantastic voyage with so many fun experiences, memories and photos (almost 5,000!!). It certainly opened my eyes to show that even with all the poverty, hardship, sometimes atrocious conditions, - the people continue to SMILE! Very humbling indeed. Makes you appreciate life a lot more. Hard to believe how quick the 6 month trip went. Reality will hit hard very soon I feel !! We flew back to the UK from Dehli and stopped in Canterbury to pick up some stuff we'd left with Hoops and to say hi to all our friends there. It was really fun to see everyone again and catch up. Thanks guys! Next stop - France. We flew back to Toulouse to a wonderful warm welcome from V's family. A superb few days of eating fantastic food, drink great wine and seeing all V's family followed. Then, after unpacking all the boxes we'd sent home during the trip (they all made it back in one piece) - we spent the next week just winding down from the voyage and preparing our CVs for the next challenge - finding a job! So far the CVs are done and we're waiting for the floods of job offers...hehehe ;-). Anyway - that's it for The Blobs, thanks for following the journey! (... to be continued?)
VG: Eh oui, les 6 mois de voyage sont finis...mais il y en aura d'autres (bon peut être pas 6 mois à chaque fois, c'est sûr!)! Après autant de temps sur les routes, à se trimballer les quelques affaires indispensables à notre survie, ça fait plaisir de rentrer chez soi et de revoir les vieilles connaissances et la famille! Et un bon lit aussi! Bizarrement le retour n'a pas été un choc pour moi, une capacité d'adaptation surdéveloppée ces derniers temps peut être ?! Enfin, on ne rentre pas indemne d'une expérience pareille, mais c'est très difficile à expliquer... Pendant ces 6 mois je me suis émerveillée devant des paysages, des gens, des cultures, des oeuvres d'art et je me suis aussi lamentée devant des spectacles désespérants tels que pollution, manque de respect, maltraitance et stupidité des uns et des autres... On se sent un peu impuissants face à tout ça. Mais on apprend beaucoup sur le monde et aussi sur ce qu'on est capable de faire soi-même !

AC: We spent the last week or so in the holy city of Haridwar and Delhi. With the end of the trip now so close it was hard for me to stay motivated to do the tourist stuff, so I took it easy (well, as much as you possible can in often chaotic India) and checked the pilgrims bathing in the Ganges river. A day trip to the Rajaji National Park to escape the city and see some wildlife was great. Seeing some elephants in the wild (not in zoos etc) was fantastic. Last stop was Delhi, for some shopping, which in fact was a quite dissappointing. We did manage to catch up with Stuti and Bryan (friends for the UK) on the last night which was a nice way to end the time in India. So, that's it for the voyage now - back to UK for a few days and then to France... oh no... real life awaits! ;-)
VG: Et voila les dernieres photos du voyage !!! Haridwar, veritable Lourdes de l'Inde, ou les Hindous se baignent et deposent des paniers de fleurs avec des bougies sur le Gange. Non, non, on s'est pas baignes ! Par contre on est alles passer une apres midi en jeep dans un parc national ou on devait voir des tas d'animaux sauvages... au bout d'une heure on en a conclu que c'etait plutot un "chicken safari" puisqu'on ne voyait pas grand chose d'autre, jusqu'au moment ou un elephant a surgi devant nous ! Beaucoup mieux ! Ensuite direction Delhi ou nous avons fait la tournee des marches, mais on est devenus difficiles apres tout ce qu'on avait trouve en Asie du coup on n'a pas achete grand chose. On a visite le Red Fort de Delhi et a la sortie on a rencontre une "star": un acteur qui jouait dans Star Trek (bon, moi je ne l'ai pas reconnu, je ne suis pas une fan!). On a tous perdu quelques kilos pendant ces 2 dernieres semaines mais je ne m'inquiete pas, on va les reprendre tres vite je sens ! A tres bientot !!!

AC: Now in the north in Rajasthan after the 17 hour train ride. First stop Jodphur to check out the famous Meherangarh fort. The Maharaja still owns the place and subsequently it is well maintainted and the views back to the Blue City of Jodhpur are sublime. We took an overnight train (complete with the Indian passengers who somehow seem to need to scream like a banshee while sleeping!??) to Jaisalmer - the desert city near the Pakistan border. After negotiating a good price, we went on a 2 day-1night Camel Safari in the Thar desert. A couple of points: - If you can, try and get a camel that doesn't still need to be trained or you will a fun time (like I did) with it running all over the place, screaming like a demon, and trying to go anywhere BUT where you want to go (at least Hoops and Virginie had many laughs watching me struggle with my camel called Sheila!). Also two days is plenty of time on the back of a camel. Your legs and arse will thank you in the end. Best part was sleeping under the stars in the desert. Last stop in Rajasthan was the pilgrim town of Pushkar and it's famous bathing Ghats on the lake. Our hotel had a nice swimming pool which we took advantage of during the hot hot days! Next stop is Haridwar and a Tiger Reserve before heading to Delhi for the last 4 days of the voyage!
VG: A Jodhpur nous avons visite le superbe fort qui est tres bien entretenu (tourisme oblige) et depuis lequel on a une chouette vue sur la ville bleue. Apres une nuit dans le train nous sommes arrives hyper tot a Jaisalmer, toute petite ville elle aussi dotee d'un fort qui fait penser aux contes des mille et une nuits sauf que... ce fort la n'est pas vraiment protege ni entretenu, d'ou une quantite de dechets hallucinante (merci aux vaches pour en manger la moitie, faut croire qu'elles aiment la plastique!). A partir de la nous sommes partis en jeep dans le desert pour passer 2 jours a dos de chameau !!! Ouais trop cool - c'est ce qu'on se dit avant d'y aller... Je suis tombee sur le plus gros chameau du coup j'avais l'impression d'etre a 2 metres au dessus du sol et il a fonce 2 fois dans des arbustes plein d'epines (c'etait pas pour m'embeter, juste pour chasser les mouches qui le piquaient...) ou j'ai laisse mon turban et quelques petits morceaux de peau ! Alessandro lui est tombe sur une jeune chamelle rebelle qui faisait n'importe quoi, et Hoops s'est fait mal en se jetant par terre, par peur que son chameau se roule sur lui ...! On s'en est sortis avec quelques egratignures, bleus et un arriere train douloureux! Mais rien que la nuit dans les dunes valait la peine, dans la fraicheur et sous les etoiles... Pour finir, Pushkar, jolie petite ville ou viennent des pelerins et enormement de touristes aussi !

AC: Before our final assault on the north of India, we relaxed on the beaches of Goa for a few days. In fact some there were some nice waves for some body-surfing and we enjoyed some great Portugese flavoured food too. After a dodgy 17 hour train to Bombay, we met Hoops at the airport, spent the day in the city and got the train to Jodhpur the following day. NB. If you decided to use the post office to send a parcel back home, ensure you leave yourself 4 hours to get it done, and also remember you will need to tip (or more realistically bribe) each person in the process!! Crazy. Next stop - Jodhpur in Rajasthan.
VG: Ahhh ! Quelques jours a Goa pour enfin se baigner dans cette chaleur ! Plus trop de touristes en cette saison mais beaucoup de vaches sur la plage ! Puis 17 heures de train pour Bombay ou nous sommes alles chercher notre ami Hoops a l'aeroport! Un peu de compagnie pour ces 2 dernieres semaines de voyage... Apres avoir passe une demie journee a la poste de Mumbai pour envoyer un carton, nous avons pris un nouveau train pour Jodhpur cette fois-ci!
