AC: The backwaters of Kerala - a relaxing, laid-back part of India where you can laze about on a houseboat and cruise the canals. We stayed in Allepey for a few days while we arranged the boat trip. Now, as usual we avoided the travel agencies for the booking of the trip and headed directly to river front to negotiate the price. We had some trouble with a young boy who wouldn't leave us alone after we declined to go on his crap boat! And who was then trying to interrupt our negotiations with other boat owners. In the end we found a nice quality boat (no, I didn't push the kid into the river - althought I wanted to do it at the time) and shared the trip with a nice couple from Israel. It was very peaceful, quiet and super relaxing to float along the backwaters just observing the river life. Next stop... Goa before we head up to Bombay and Rajasthan.
