VG: Le Chiapas!
Depaysement total! De tout partout !!! Prochaine etape: la côte Pacifique Sud.
AC: Next stop was the region of Chiapas. More fantastic ruins in Palenque deep in the forest - my favourite so far. The humidity is very draining, but the site is worth it! We took a great bus ride through winding roads up high into the mountains of Chiapas to the very picturesque town of San Cristobal de las Casas! This place has a strong European feel, and a refreshingly cooler climate. We spent almost a week here visiting the many cool places nearby. Oh yeah, Mexico is home to the (old) VW beetle! They are everywhere!! Taxis, police cars - everywhere!

Yucatan

AC: Hola!!! Now it's burritos and tequila time. We flew to Cancun and quickly got some sunshine at Playa del Carmen (very touristic)!! Next was the famous ruins at Chichen Itza which are fabulous, and awesome to see. We got there early and pretty much had the whole site to ourselves. More Mayan ruins in Coba, and spectacular beach front ruins in Tulum. The weather is super warm, the colours, the sounds, the smells, the place is alive and vibrant! We're loving the food, the people and the often very interesting bus rides! Shame about all the over-developed hotel areas on the beautiful coastline.

AC: Quick 2 day stopover in the sunny south of Florida! Impressed with the south beach area where we're staying. Very prominent latin feel and weather is fantastic! PS - Hoops, I did find my cool hybrid sandals-joggers in the end!
